President Obama in his address to the nation concerning ISIS claimed that the actions of the so-called ‘Islamic State’ had nothing to do with Islam:
Now let’s make two things clear: ISIL is not “Islamic.” No religion condones the killing of innocents. And the vast majority of ISIL’s victims have been Muslim. And ISIL is certainly not a state.
This is not the first time that he has made such a statement trying to divorce IS/ISIS/ISIL from the Muslim religion and it will not be the last. He has a positive vision of the ‘religion of peace’ that may reflect some of his fanciful childhood memories along with some kind of PC notion of Islam that may square with how moderate Muslims in the USA hope it will become but has very little basis of reality in the majority of Muslim nations around the world. On the other hand he could rightly say that ISIS does not reflect the teaching and understanding of the vast majority of Muslims in America.
Every time a poll is taken in a ‘moderate’ Muslim country the researchers end up being surprised with the results since the majority of Muslims still seem to support some of the more radical provisions of Sharia law such as amputations, beheadings, and death for unfaithful women. Most do not support the radical actions of ISIS but if only 1% do that is over 10 million and 10% is closer to reality which would bring the number to 100 million who may sympathize with the ISIS cause.
Fact is the vast majority of Muslims, even the moderate ones do not consider those who adhere to other religions to be ‘innocent’ they only disagree on whether infidels should be persuaded or compelled.
There is nothing that ISIS is doing that the original prophet Muhammad didn’t do and support during his lifetime. So was the founder of Islam really ‘Islamic’? According to President Obama’s PC notions of Islam maybe not since Muhammad had whole villages of innocent people killed if they refused to convert to Islam. *Top
